Unfortunately, there’s some disappointing news as Angeline Jolie recently announced her decision to take a break from acting.
During a recent press conference for her latest movie Maleficent, the actress hinted at a shift in her career priorities. Jolie expressed that acting will now take a lesser role as she looks to focus more on writing and directing. She mentioned, “I’ve had a great run in acting, but I’m excited to be more selective and enjoy roles like this one. However, my main focus will be on my work with the UN and the PSVI.”
The actress has become well-known for her impactful work in the humanitarian realm, serving as a special envoy to the UN and actively advocating against sexual violence. In addition to her humanitarian efforts, she has also ventured into the world of directing. Her first directorial venture was In the Land of Blood and Honey in 2011, followed by the upcoming release of Unbroken, a Second World War film written by the Coen brothers. Angelina has shared that her children enjoy watching movies that feature both her and her partner, Brad Pitt.
“My older kids were absolutely delighted when they saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith recently. It was probably the most entertaining thing they had ever witnessed,” she shared. “Seeing your parents play spies is definitely a strange but exciting childhood fantasy.” Additionally, she mentioned that her five-year-old son Knox is a big fan of the Tomb Raider series. “My youngest, Knox, watches Tomb Raider and truly believes that Mommy can do all those stunts. I’m especially looking forward to Maleficent because I believe it’s a movie we can all enjoy together and that the kids will really love.”
Maleficent mentioned that she plans to take her family to watch the new version of the classic fairy tale. However, her kids have already had a sneak peek and love hearing her do Maleficent’s voice at home. She feels like being a part of the film really brought out her inner child. Angelina Jolie’s youngest daughter, Vivienne, also appears in the film, but Angelina is not keen on her children following in her and Brad’s acting footsteps. She hopes they choose their own paths and be happy in whatever they decide to do. Vivienne’s role in the movie was actually due to the children on set being frightened, and she had to step in to help out. The movie Maleficent will be hitting UK cinemas on May 28.
